Miu Miu and Liselotte Watkins

The decadent minxes and modish harlequins that made an appearance at Miu Miu last night come from the pen of Swedish illustrator Liselotte Watkins. Miuccia Prada tells Style.com that for Miu Miu’s Spring 2008 collection she was thinking about “life as theater, and all the clichés of how people represent themselves in the world.”

Peter Beard

{Comments 0}

He was born in 1938 in New York City. Peter Beard kept diaries at an early age. He took his first pictures at twelve and photography quickly evolved into an extension of his diaries, as a way to preserve and remember vacations and favorite things. In 1957 he entered Yale University as a pre-medical student, but perceiving humans as the main disease soon switched to art history, studying under Vincent Scully, Joseph Albers, and Richard Lindner.

In addition to creating original artwork, Beard has befriended and collaborated on projects with many artists including Andy Warhol, Andrew Wyeth, Richard Lindner, Terry Southern, Truman Capote, and Francis Bacon.

Babette montage

Babette, aka Babette Pautier, is a young and talented emerging photographer born in France and based in London. A graduate of the Arts Deco school in Paris, she has already published her work in several magazines such as Double and Intersection.

Babette 1

While there are many photographers out there who position their work on the thin border between fashion and art, few do it with a talent that equals Babette’s.

Her style mixes elegantly the glamourous with the painterly, ranging from neon-pop flashiness to dreamlike shadowy portraits with a distinctive film still quality. Portraits aside, her pictures of urban sceneries and eerie landscapes all bear the mark of a vision steeped as much in gothic horror as in innocent daydreaming.

Oh, and did we mention, even her website is uber cool and she’s designed it herself with little outside help. Check it out for your selves.

In Milan in September, the Prada runway show was a buzz with Miuccia filling the runway with silk-printed tunics, cropped flared trousers, and nymph and fairy prints. This print is the iconic print for the Spring season and is seen on their handbags, clothing, and even their shoe boxes.

Two artists were commissioned from Prada to do the illustrations for this season’s looks.

The one who did the illustration on this bag is the eloquent James Jean.
