Selfish?

{Comments 0}

Dazed presents Selfish? – a unique proposition dreamed up by Rankin’s assistants based upon featured photographer Damien Fry’s simple premise that “people are all ultimately selfish”. As such, it explores the power dynamic between the photographer and their subject. “The photographer is the director and the executioner,” explains Fry. “In a society where we are all driven to be more selfish and want more, we are the people who show you visually what you are supposed to want, and how you can go about getting it.”

All of the work exhibited will riff on this theme, with each photographer annexing their own allocated area of the gallery for whatever purpose they desire. We can’t really give away any more than that, as they’re all keeping their ideas very close to their chests – which is pretty selfish…

Perspective chairs by Pharrell Williams

Pharrell Williams - “Perspective chairs 2008 - General View / Vue d’ensemble
For his first exhibition in a gallery, Pharrell Williams created some furniture with vibrant colors and slick surfaces. One chair with the legs of a man and a woman evokes a sexual intercourse. The chair is produced in four different colors, with a choice for the seat in leather, veal skin or velour leather. For this chair, Pharrell Williams diverted examples of classical furniture and updated it into his vision of style with intense colors and sensual material

Tina Berning - NO NIPPLES. NO GUNS. NO CIGARETTES. - November 14, 2008  -  February 15, 2009

Tina Berning is showing her new works ‘NO NIPPLES. NO GUNS. NO CIGARETTES.’ on the November 14th, 2008 at 2 agenten, galerie für illustration in Berlin.

In her exhibition ‘NO NIPPLES. NO GUNS. NO CIGARETTES.’, Tina Berning explores the complex of relationships between conditioned aesthetics and supposed self-determination in the established canon of contemporary images. Within her works she refers to the exemplary representation of the human body as it is spread in the media. She elutes the figures from their surroundings and shows them remaining isolated in their poses. A reinterpretation arises in the interplay of voyerism and exhibitionism. Tina Berning’s exhibition ‘NO NIPPLES. NO GUNS. NO CIGARETTES.’ will be exposed for three months at galerie für illustration.

Please join us for the opening reception on November 14, 2008 at 7pm.
