Exhibition prints for the ‘Face/project’ by Tina Berning & Michelangelo Di Battista at Camera Work, Berlin

What began as an artistic collaboration between photographer Michelangelo Di Battista and illustrator Tina Berning a few years ago, has now been consequently continued and the fruitful results are now on show in the ‘FACE/project’ solo show at Camera Work.

RECOM ART first produced Michelangelo di Battista’s female portraits as high quality ditone prints, in turn, Tina Berning then added techniques such as weaving, cutting and sewing, as well as comments and illustrations. The exhibition presents over 30 unique pieces.

Tina Berning and Michelangelo Di Battista’s collaboration breaks new ground in fashion photography, illustration and painting.

The two first met whilst working on a beauty shoot for VOGUE ITALIA in summer 2007. They soon realise the great potential of the creative collaboration. During the shoot, they recognised they were entering an area, which had previously been restrictive: they ignored all the manipulative possibilities of the computer, instead they anachronistically united their disciplines of photography and illustration in an analogue way.

The exhibition is open until 30 October at the CAMERA WORK Gallery.

On 30 April, Christian Hiltawsky will open his new gallery space, in the heart of Berlin Mitte, with photographs by Frank Horvat (*1928), who played an important role in the history of fashion photography. The gallerist has already proven his knowledge of photography art with many years of experience as the head of the aplanat galerie für fotografie in Hamburg.

The private view is on 30 April from 7pm onwards. Dr. Matthias Harder, Curator of the Helmut Newton Trust, will be giving a talk, attended by the photographer himself. On 1 May at 7pm, there will be a reading and slide show, by Ingrid Mylo and Frank Horvat to introduce the “Masken und Mandarinen” (masks and mandarins) book project.

Its home base is Berlin, where Illustrative is held every year in September for three weeks followed by a further Illustrative in Paris.

Showcasing a variety of themes, styles and techniques, the show captures the status quo and the newest developments in illustrative arts. Each edition of the event is composed of a main exhibition and a series of thematic sections dedicated to specific topics and approaches (book art, fashion illustration, animation, set design, young talents, etc) . In addition to the exhibition, a series of events, discussions and lectures are held around contemporary illustration and associated areas.

Here is some cool stuff from the some of the emerging artists featured in the ” Young Talents ” section in the last Paris edition :
