Forget Me Not - Winter Collection ‘’dream-catcher’’

Uncategorized No Comments »

We love the forget me not scarves, here a little description of the label and the new winter collection, all the scarves are produced in Italy (Como) using a very fine digital print mode which is best suited to render the minute details of hand-drawn compositions.

Coco - The designer
After five years studying fine arts in Paris, Coco forged a successful career as a communication consultant for leading French fashion designers and couture houses. She now also creates imagery for major retail brands and publications spanning both the independent and mainstream press, including Vogue, ELLE, Nylon and Muse. Her approach mixes several techniques, combining old-school processes such as painting and hand-drawing with digital techniques. For the finished product, she balances a mix of visual restraint and minimalism with a more leftfield and pop-friendly approach. Her work has been published in numerous publications including Taschen, Gestalten,Victionary and several exhibitions in London, Los Angeles and Barcelona. She has also worked on a series of collaborations, including Addition Adelaide in Japan, Evian, Longchamp, K Karl Lagerfeld.

Sources for inspiration
Forget Me Not is a concept that revolves around Coco’s own peculiar visual universe and most notably the encounter between several of her particular fields of interest. These include the collage works of the modernist avant-garde, Surrealism, montage as a way of enchanting reality, geometric patterns - especially in esoteric imagery, animals seen as totems, the talismanic power of the object and literary references ranging from childrens’ tales to fin-de-siècle novels.

AW - 11/12
The inspiration for the new winter collection, Dreams & Feathers, is found in Coco’s trademark orchestration of ancient esoteric symbols with a hyper-contemporary approach to design. This year, the collection takes a foray into more graphic territories – cubism, kaleidoscopic refractions and the works of M.C. Escher all spring to mind – as well as adopting a new, ulltra-versatile lozenge silhouette.
Feathered messengers of ancient wisdom invite us to a flight into the unknown, a world of psychedelia, dream- like geometries and strange organic landscapes where feathers grow like clusters of plants and ancient jewellry unfurls into cosmic ‘’dream-catcher’’ devices.

Forget Me Not - S/S11

Uncategorized No Comments »

The new SS2011 accessories collection from Forget-Me-Not is inspired by Mythology. Designer Coco’s 100% silk scarves – which are are digitally printed in Como, Italy – depict scenes featuring characters whose tales of heroism, romance and mystery have captured mankind’s imagination across the centuries.

As always, the Forget–Me-Not muses appear in the form of delicate female characters depicted in dreamlike scenarios. Fine featured and full of mischief, these sylphs are surrounded by winged creatures and fantastical beings including butterfly, ornate shells and tropical birds. Twisted ropes of pearls snake through elegant tuniques whilst Coco’s unique geometrical abstractions add a graphic quality that compliments the whimsical nature of her illustrations.

In a palette of ocean blues, rich purple and midnight black, on which brighter hues are set off against a backdrop of neutral tones to give each composition a beguiling sense of depth. Moreover, with every design meticulously rendered by hand, this latest collection in the highly successful Forget-Me-Not series is a covetable extension of Coco’s work as a sought after fashion illustrator.

Wonderland scarves, spring summer 2010

Uncategorized No Comments »

“Wonderland” is the perfect fantasy for the SS 10 season.   Inspiration flows from the pages of Lewis Carol’s Alice in Wonderland, from the exquisite illustrations of John Tenniel depicting the fantastical world beyond the rabbit hole, and is recast in a modern light as a collection of digitally printed silk scarves.  Each design has been meticulously rendered by hand, and serves as an extension of Coco’s work as a highly coveted fashion illustrator.

The muse finds herself transported in ink into three distinct fantasy worlds, which serve as stages of what must surely be a most marvelous adventure.  In one instant she sits amongst an explosion of oversized lilies and musical notes, which swirl around bending bars of sound.  In another she stands holding a deck of cards, seemingly beckoning us past a grouping of feathers and flamingos to take a closer look.
The third is a boudoir abstraction of whirling timepieces, mechanisms, and upholstery finishings.
Strong geometric shapes and backgrounds serve as a counterpoint to elegant drawings and swirling realities, giving the sublimely feminine illustrations a stronger, modern appeal.   Each scarf design comes in 3 colour ways, in which brighter and more neutral tones are carefully considered and utilized expertly to give each composition a unique appeal.

This first collection (S/S 09), ”Diamantiferous”, is based on a series of three sets, all dedicated to the encounter of gems with several creatures - birds, insects and butterflies. The three female faces which appear in the works play a central part, with their own signification but also the continuity they establish with my work as a fashion illustrator.
